Happy Monday

What a truly wonderful long weekend.
We visited the High Line on Friday and I was blown away with the work they’d done. For those of you that don’t know about it,
the High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan’s largest industrial district.
After years of debate as to what to do with this construction the design team James Corner Field Operations with architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro were appointed to transform it into a public park.
The attention to detail and the way in which the old tracks are integrated into the design is wonderful. You really have to see for yourself.

Here are some before and after shots I found. Wish I’d had opportunity to explore before it was converted.
