INSPIRATION: HAND DRAWN MAPS

Some of my first commercial assignments as an illustrator in New York in 1995 were painting maps for magazines like Elle Decor and Travel & Leisure.

I loved getting these jobs, being sent the brief and then researching the location. Deciding what was specific to that area and therefore what would make an interesting image.

I continue to illustrate maps for clients and these have appeared in my product line too.

There are many other illustrators out there who paint and draw beautiful maps. Olaf Hajek is one such artist whose work I have admired for many years.

And on a more graphic note, Lena Corwin, a woman of many skills, published this book of maps a few years ago.
